Coach-Supported Internet-Based Cognitive Therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder in Hong Kong: Development, Training, and Pilot Clinical Outcomes

This letter describes the development of a modified version of i CT-SAD, optimised for delivery by coaches, along with coach training and supervision, and pilot patient outcomes. This single-cohort pilot study measured social anxiety symptoms weekly using the self-reported Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS) [7]. i CT-SAD includes core modules on key SAD treatment principles and a range of optional modules for tailoring treatment to patients’ specific concerns [2,3].

Adequate training equips professionals with the skills required to use new technology and facilitates understanding of the justification for technology. These attributes of training contribute to positive experiences with, and the reinforcement of, technology use [9,11,20]. Consistent with previous research, we hypothesize that training is positively associated with upskilling and care delivery outcomes.

Combining audits with targeted training can help bridge the gap between knowledge and bedside practice [9]. Moreover, bundling key evidence-based guidelines into practical, point-of-care tools has proven effective in improving adherence and reducing preventable complications [10]. In response to the audit findings, we developed a structured intervention that integrates audits and education to improve professional competencies and reduce the incidence of CVC-related complications.

This lack of regulation of training can lead to gaps in knowledge and caregiving abilities [6]. PSWs have indicated that more training is needed, specifically in the field of dementia and mental health [8]. With over 69% of residents in long-term care (LTC) homes living with dementia and 87% with some form of cognitive impairment [9], more specific education and training about dementia are needed for PSWs. There are currently a variety of training approaches for dementia for unregulated care providers.
