Understanding Device Integrations Within Diabetes Apps: Mixed Methods Analysis of App Features and User Reviews

Understanding Device Integrations Within Diabetes Apps: Mixed Methods Analysis of App Features and User Reviews

However, by limiting the number of reviews per app (by following an approach reported by Stawarz et al [28]) and focusing on reviews that explicitly mention features and functionality, we were able to reduce these biases. Finally, our focus on user reviews allowed us to explore a wide range of apps and gather user experience data that would otherwise be difficult to access.

User Experience of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Apps for Depression: An Analysis of App Functionality and User Reviews

To identify reviews for the analysis, we followed the approach similar to the one used in the study by Stawarz et al [43]—first, the lead author manually assessed all reviews, recording their sentiment (positive, negative, neutral) and whether each mentioned at least 1 therapeutic feature; this was then discussed with other authors. Next, to qualitatively identify underlying themes, we used thematic analysis [52] to analyze the subset of reviews that mentioned at least 1 therapeutic feature.
