Patient Similarity in Prediction Models Based on Health Data: A Scoping Review

Medicine is largely reactive—a disease is treated only after it is observed [1]. However, a move toward proactive medicine has been initiated by advances in technologies for analyzing the nature of a disease or estimating individual susceptibility to disease [2]. Moreover, a sharp increase in electronic health record (EHR) adoption has facilitated the move toward proactive medicine, which will hopefully lead to improved care and better patient outcomes.
