A Texting- and Internet-Based Self-Reporting System for Enhanced Vaccine Safety Surveillance With Insights From a Large Integrated Health Care System in the United States: Prospective Cohort Study

A Texting- and Internet-Based Self-Reporting System for Enhanced Vaccine Safety Surveillance With Insights From a Large Integrated Health Care System in the United States: Prospective Cohort Study

However, we observed lower participation among selected vulnerable populations, demonstrating the existence of barriers to participation in digital reporting tools. If self-reporting digital tools are to be used in public health, their reach must be optimized to ensure that their implementation is equitable.

Digitally Enabled Peer Support and Social Health Platform for Vulnerable Adults With Loneliness and Symptomatic Mental Illness: Cohort Analysis

Digitally Enabled Peer Support and Social Health Platform for Vulnerable Adults With Loneliness and Symptomatic Mental Illness: Cohort Analysis

To fill this gap, this study prospectively evaluated (1) engagement with a digitally enabled peer support intervention; (2) changes in mental health outcomes; and (3) estimated health care cost reductions among vulnerable adults with symptomatic depression, anxiety, and significant loneliness. Adults (>18 years) living in Colorado were recruited via social media campaigns between January 1 and December 31, 2022, to participate in a peer support program [3].

Development and Evaluation of a Community Health Program to Promote Physical Activity Among Vulnerable Community-Dwelling Older Adults: Protocol for a Prospective Cohort Study

Development and Evaluation of a Community Health Program to Promote Physical Activity Among Vulnerable Community-Dwelling Older Adults: Protocol for a Prospective Cohort Study

However, many studies involved mostly healthy older adults who did not belong to a vulnerable group, and current research does not address long-term implications or specific group differences. Thus, more evidence is needed to confirm these positive impacts, especially on vulnerable older adults, and to implement subsequent health promotion programs.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on People Living With Rare Diseases and Their Families: Results of a National Survey

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on People Living With Rare Diseases and Their Families: Results of a National Survey

Several surveys have documented a negative impact on anxiety and depression, self-reported well-being, and quality of life in the general population [11-16] and in vulnerable groups such as pregnant women [17-19], university students [20-22], older people [23,24], and health care workers [25,26].

Engagement, Satisfaction, and Mental Health Outcomes Across Different Residential Subgroup Users of a Digital Mental Health Relational Agent: Exploratory Single-Arm Study

Engagement, Satisfaction, and Mental Health Outcomes Across Different Residential Subgroup Users of a Digital Mental Health Relational Agent: Exploratory Single-Arm Study

Residentially vulnerable populations, such as residents of rural areas, medically underserved areas (MUAs), and critical mental health provider shortage areas (MHPSAs), are particularly limited in their access to effective mental health treatment [5]. Approximately 60% of individuals with a psychiatric disorder residing in MUAs and MHPSAs are treated solely by primary care physicians [6], who are often the only treatment source for rural populations [7,8].

Patient Perceptions of e-Visits: Qualitative Study of Older Adults to Inform Health System Implementation

Patient Perceptions of e-Visits: Qualitative Study of Older Adults to Inform Health System Implementation

As health systems shift toward providing more virtual care [17,18], it is crucial that we understand the interest and ability of vulnerable patient groups to use these digital tools so as to prevent worsening health disparities. Furthermore, when health systems begin to offer e-visits, they may see low uptake and dissatisfaction if key patient groups are uncomfortable with their use.

Health Needs for Suicide Prevention and Acceptance of e-Mental Health Interventions in Adolescents and Young Adults: Qualitative Study

Health Needs for Suicide Prevention and Acceptance of e-Mental Health Interventions in Adolescents and Young Adults: Qualitative Study

Especially, male adolescents may benefit from anonymous web-based interventions, as young men appear to be particularly vulnerable and have higher rates of suicide: ...they do not even have to reveal whether they are male or female, but it runs anonymously and they can hide behind it and, it can be said, it’s like a camouflage hideout with a small hole. Then they contact the outside, so us and besides they are well protected and out of this protection I think they are also more courageous and approachable.

Electronic Tracking Devices for People With Dementia: Content Analysis of Company Websites

Electronic Tracking Devices for People With Dementia: Content Analysis of Company Websites

Wandering behavior makes persons with dementia vulnerable to various harms. Vulnerability is a common human condition—to be human is to be vulnerable. This general or common vulnerability is, as ten Have [12] states, “a general characteristic of the human condition.”

Adapting DIALOG+ in a School Setting—A Tool to Support Well-being and Resilience in Adolescents Living in Postconflict Areas During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Protocol for a Cluster Randomized Exploratory Study

Adapting DIALOG+ in a School Setting—A Tool to Support Well-being and Resilience in Adolescents Living in Postconflict Areas During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Protocol for a Cluster Randomized Exploratory Study

Despite this clear problem and multiple issues, both governmental and individual barriers persist and impede an adequate response to the mental health needs of this vulnerable population [17]. It is estimated that in low- and middle-income countries, there is a significant shortage of mental health professionals such as child psychiatrists, accounting for only 0.1 per 100.000 population [18].
