The goal of this research was to advance the current knowledge about user evaluations of social media content and to develop and initially validate a measurement instrument for assessing social media realism. Given the pervasiveness of misinformation [1-3], our goal was to offer a general measure that can be used in diverse public health domains. These efforts aim to inform and enhance public health misinformation–countering efforts using digital media literacy. Toward this end, 2 studies were conducted.

Screen Use Time and Its Association With Mental Health Issues in Young Adults in India: Protocol for a Cross-Sectional Study

Participants who have responded to the survey and people in the investigators’ networks will be requested to send the survey instrument further to people who might be eligible for study participation. Additionally, the survey will also be distributed through the higher education institutes that investigators routinely collaborate with. The survey will be distributed in the form of Google Forms. Participants are expected to take about 10-15 minutes to complete the entire questionnaire.

In this study, the EDLQ was developed using the 4 phases of instrument development and validation (conceptualization, item development, content validation, and a field survey) to evaluate its psychometric properties. In accordance with the Helsinki Declaration, all procedures in this study have been reviewed and approved by the Institutional Review Board of Yonsei University (approval 4-2022-0396).

The rest aimed to develop a measuring instrument (n=2), evaluate the usability of combining several instruments (n=1), and evaluate the content and response process of an instrument (n=1).

Participants were shown all included PROMs and were asked to provide their opinion on each instrument, and if they had any experiences administering it in clinical or research settings.

We included studies involving the development of an e Health literacy instrument or evaluations of its measurement properties published as full-text original articles in peer-reviewed journals written in English. If a study had utilized an e Health literacy instrument as an outcome measure and determined its measurement properties, such as Cronbach’s α, but not with the main purpose of evaluating measurement properties of an e Health literacy instrument, then the article was not included.

From this, an initial 10-question instrument (5 questions in each domain) was composed by PA and JSB, who have expertise in the field of aging and the internet. This list was reviewed together with a third expert, in the psychology of aging, and different aspects and formulations were discussed and agreed upon.
