Behavior Emotion Therapy System and You: Co-Design and Evaluation of a Mental Health Chatbot and Digital Human for Mild to Moderate Anxiety in Healthy Participants

Behavior Emotion Therapy System and You: Co-Design and Evaluation of a Mental Health Chatbot and Digital Human for Mild to Moderate Anxiety in Healthy Participants

This phase of the project focused on exploring user-centered requirements for developing a text-based and digital human chatbot to alleviate symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety. The primary objective was to map the key topics, preferences, and concerns held by anonymous voluntary participants from the general public regarding a chatbot for mild to moderate anxiety. Ten experts were invited to participate in the construction of the foundation of the survey.

Digital Mental Health Coaching in Clinically Diverse Populations: Controlled Engagement and Outcomes Study

Digital Mental Health Coaching in Clinically Diverse Populations: Controlled Engagement and Outcomes Study

Users completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (short version; DASS-21) [21] twice via an in-app, self-report questionnaire. The DASS-21 is a well-validated [22-24] measure comprising 3 scales, each with 7 items. Item responses were summed to create continuous scores of depression, anxiety, and stress symptom severity; higher scores indicated greater severity.

Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy and Patient Education for Preoperative Anxiety in Pediatrics: Randomized Controlled Trial

Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy and Patient Education for Preoperative Anxiety in Pediatrics: Randomized Controlled Trial

The emotional burden and stressors inherent to the perioperative process commonly result in preoperative anxiety. Up to 75% of children and 50%‐75% of guardians experience preoperative anxiety [1,2]. Indeed, a mutual influence between the patient-guardian dyad can exacerbate or ameliorate the anxiety [3].

Efficacy of a Self-Guided Transdiagnostic Intervention for Adults With Anxiety and Depression: Randomized Controlled Trial

Anxiety and depressive disorders represent 2 of the most prevalent and debilitating mental health conditions globally, affecting hundreds of millions of individuals worldwide and imposing substantial personal, social, and economic burdens [1]. In the United States, approximately 31% of adults report experiencing an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives, with 20% reporting anxiety symptoms within the past year [2].

Implementing a Digital Mental Health Intervention—the Lumi Nova App—to Support Children With Anxiety in Economically Disadvantaged Areas: Mixed Methods Study

Implementing a Digital Mental Health Intervention—the Lumi Nova App—to Support Children With Anxiety in Economically Disadvantaged Areas: Mixed Methods Study

Anxiety is one of the most common psychological symptoms and one of the most common mental illnesses worldwide, and it often starts by the age of 13 years [2]. Anxiety and depression are also the most common mental disorders experienced by children in the United Kingdom [3]. Despite the existence of effective anxiety treatments in England, many children and young people do not receive appropriate, evidence-based, or timely support.

Relationship Between Adolescent Health Anxiety and Health-Related Internet Use: 3-Wave Longitudinal Survey Study

Relationship Between Adolescent Health Anxiety and Health-Related Internet Use: 3-Wave Longitudinal Survey Study

A cross-sectional study showed that those with medium health anxiety resemble those with high health anxiety rather than those with low anxiety in terms of their internet use and COVID-related anxiety [13]. This marks the importance of a more nuanced focus on adolescents with different base levels of health anxiety. To fill this gap, we aim to focus on these 2 contradictory, yet likely mutual, perspectives.

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Positive Psychological Intervention for Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer: Pre-Post Pilot Study

Feasibility and Acceptability of a Positive Psychological Intervention for Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer: Pre-Post Pilot Study

Given their unique experiences, interventions addressing depression and anxiety, specifically for patients with MBC, are urgently needed. There are few evidence-based interventions targeting depression and anxiety for patients with MBC. A 2023 systematic review identified 13 studies testing supportive care interventions designed to improve quality of life and symptom experience among patients with MBC [15].

Designing Digital Mental Health Tools to Support the Needs of Black Adults in the United States: Qualitative Analysis

Designing Digital Mental Health Tools to Support the Needs of Black Adults in the United States: Qualitative Analysis

The United States is facing a burgeoning mental health crisis, in which depression and anxiety are at the forefront. Depression and anxiety are pervasive mental health conditions that affect 8.3% and 19.1% of adults each year, respectively [1,2]. They are often chronic and debilitating, with adverse downstream effects on education, employment, and quality of life [1,2]. The clinical presentation of depression and anxiety varies from person to person and between groups [3,4].
