Key Elements and Theoretical Foundations for the Design and Delivery of Text Messages to Boost Medication Adherence in Patients With Diabetes, Hypertension, and Hyperlipidemia: Scoping Review

Key Elements and Theoretical Foundations for the Design and Delivery of Text Messages to Boost Medication Adherence in Patients With Diabetes, Hypertension, and Hyperlipidemia: Scoping Review

Effective management of chronic conditions relies heavily on medication adherence [4], defined as the extent to which individuals follow prescribed medication regimens as suggested by health care professionals [5,6]. High adherence rates are associated with improved clinical outcomes, reduced complications, and lower health care costs [7,8]. However, medication adherence remains suboptimal worldwide, with an estimated global adherence rate of only 50% [9].

Adherence to Therapy Using Neurostimulation Devices in the Treatment of Pediatric Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Extraclinical Study

Adherence to Therapy Using Neurostimulation Devices in the Treatment of Pediatric Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Extraclinical Study

However, stakeholders in the extraclinical (outside the sphere of the clinic) use of neurostimulators among children—parents, teachers, school nurses, and psychologists—are rarely consulted and have little opportunity for preclinical or extraclinical input into design considerations that support adherence to therapy using such devices [8,31].

Stationary Cycling Exercise With Virtual Reality to Reduce Depressive Symptoms Among People With Mild to Moderate Depression: Randomized Controlled Trial

Stationary Cycling Exercise With Virtual Reality to Reduce Depressive Symptoms Among People With Mild to Moderate Depression: Randomized Controlled Trial

Exercise adherence is calculated as recorded training completion times/required target times × 100%. Patients with an adherence percentage of less than 60% are classified as having poor adherence or moderate adherence, and those with an adherence percentage of ≥60% are classified as having good adherence or complete adherence.

Validation of the Perceived Barriers to Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence (PEDIA) Scale Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender and Nonbinary Persons: Cross-Sectional Study

Validation of the Perceived Barriers to Antiretroviral Therapy Adherence (PEDIA) Scale Among Gay, Bisexual, and Other Men Who Have Sex With Men and Transgender and Nonbinary Persons: Cross-Sectional Study

In terms of ART adherence in Brazil, a systematic review with meta-analysis that included 24 studies using various adherence measures published between 2005 and 2016 estimated that only 64% of people living with HIV achieved optimal ART adherence, frequently defined as ≥95% though it varied by study [6].

Exploring Stakeholders’ Perceptions of Using Digital Health Technologies to Improve the Conservative Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Qualitative Study

Exploring Stakeholders’ Perceptions of Using Digital Health Technologies to Improve the Conservative Treatment of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis: Qualitative Study

The themes of AIS-specific education and information, psychosocial support for patients with AIS and community connection, health care communication and access, and adherence to AIS treatment and gamification, emerging from the conducted interviews, highlight how such an app could significantly enhance the treatment process for patients. These themes reflect common concerns in chronic disease management, such as the need for accessible information, peer support, and tools that enhance treatment adherence.

Safety Evaluation in Healthy Adults of Motion-Based Virtual Reality Dichoptic Training for Pediatric Patients With Amblyopia: Prospective Intervention Study

Safety Evaluation in Healthy Adults of Motion-Based Virtual Reality Dichoptic Training for Pediatric Patients With Amblyopia: Prospective Intervention Study

While combining corrective spectacles and patching therapy can improve visual acuity and shorten the treatment duration [8], treatment adherence and patient stress are significant clinical challenges. Studies have shown that treatment adherence to patching therapy is often Dichoptic training, which was presented by Hess et al [12], offers a promising approach to improving visual acuity in pediatric patients with amblyopia.

Feasibility of a 12-Week, Therapist-Independent, Smartphone-Based Biofeedback Treatment for Episodic Migraine in Adults: Single-Center, Open-Label, 1-Armed Trial

Feasibility of a 12-Week, Therapist-Independent, Smartphone-Based Biofeedback Treatment for Episodic Migraine in Adults: Single-Center, Open-Label, 1-Armed Trial

The feasibility of Cerebri was evaluated by assessing the level of adherence to daily biofeedback sessions and daily e Diary entries. Adherence was defined as the percentage of completed sessions and e Diary entries per 28-day period. On a given day, adherence was defined as the completion of a 10-minute biofeedback session or a completed e Diary entry, respectively.

Correlation Between Technology and Improved Outcomes in Youth With Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: Prospective Study Examining Outcomes for Patients With Depression and Those With Public Insurance

In the United States, the cost of diagnosed diabetes was estimated to be in the US $400 billion range in 2022 [2], much of this cost being related to complications of suboptimal adherence to treatment. Consistent glucose control is vital to avoiding long-term complications of T1 DM, such as retinopathy, nephropathy, and cardiovascular disease [3,4].

Engagement With a Smartphone-Delivered Dietary Education Intervention and Its Relation to Dietary Intake and Cardiometabolic Risk Markers in People With Type 2 Diabetes: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial

In recent years, the emergence of new mobile health (m Health) apps has been proposed as a cost-effective means of delivering nutritional therapy [2-4]. m Health interventions offer a promising way to support lifestyle changes, but the effect of any intervention is dependent on adherence, ie, the extent to which participants follow an intervention as intended [5-7]. Maintaining user engagement in an app-based intervention is challenging [8,9], yet, important.

Intervention With WhatsApp Messaging to Compare the Effect of Self-Designed Messages and Standardized Messages in Adherence to Antiretroviral Treatment in Young People Living With HIV in a Hospital in Lima, Peru: Protocol for a Nonblinded Randomized Controlled Trial

HIV programs continue in search of effective interventions to increase adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), especially for young people living with HIV/AIDS. This group faces increasing rates of new HIV infections [1] and heightened vulnerability to drivers of antiretroviral resistance, such as suboptimal ART adherence [2], ART abandonment, and non-retention in care [3].
