A recent meta-analysis of individual participant data (IPDMA) of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) demonstrated that digital interventions based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) were effective in reducing suicidal ideation with an effect size of b=−0.25 (95% CI −0.32 to −0.17) [11].

The trials were conducted simultaneously using the same intervention, procedures, and research setting but targeted individuals with different levels of depressive symptomatology (diagnosed depressive disorder of mild to moderate severity in the study by Baumeister et al [48] and subclinical but at least mild levels of depressive symptoms in the study by Sander et al [21]). For the purpose of this study, the trial data were combined. All the participants provided written informed consent.
