Health Care Professionals' Engagement With Digital Mental Health Interventions in the United Kingdom and China: Mixed Methods Study on Engagement Factors and Design Implications

Health Care Professionals' Engagement With Digital Mental Health Interventions in the United Kingdom and China: Mixed Methods Study on Engagement Factors and Design Implications

Many recent reviews have shown that low engagement is a ubiquitous problem among DMHIs [17-19]. Plus, user engagement is considerably lower in naturalistic settings than in empirical studies [19-21]. To illustrate this, a review of 59 off-the-shelf mental health apps reported a median uptake rate of 4.0% and a 15-day retention rate of only 3.9% [22].

Patient and Public Involvement in Technology-Related Dementia Research: Scoping Review

Patient and Public Involvement in Technology-Related Dementia Research: Scoping Review

Within technology innovation, there has been a steady and increasing emphasis over the past 50 years on ensuring that a “human-centered” approach is taken to developing a new product or service [33]. Human-centered design emphasizes the need for fostering deep empathy with the people one is designing with, bringing end users into the design process as early as possible. Co-design can be a method of human-centered design.

Assessing a Sleep Interviewing Chatbot to Improve Subjective and Objective Sleep: Protocol for an Observational Feasibility Study

Assessing a Sleep Interviewing Chatbot to Improve Subjective and Objective Sleep: Protocol for an Observational Feasibility Study

In addition, Aji et al [23] showed that a self-reporting mobile app (Sleep Fix), connected to a wearable sleep-tracking device, can encourage users’ engagement with the app’s self-reporting functionality in a pilot randomized controlled trial. However, these studies only combine digital sleep quality monitoring with a digital self-reporting mechanism or periodic text messages to encourage users to engage in sleep quality reporting, good sleep habits, and routine.

Assessing the Feasibility of a Text-Based Conversational Agent for Asthma Support: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Observational Study

Assessing the Feasibility of a Text-Based Conversational Agent for Asthma Support: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Observational Study

A first critical design decision arising from stakeholder consultations was the choice to provide the chatbot through the popular Whats App platform rather than through a new dedicated app. The advisory team based the decision on Whats App’s lower barrier of entry for users. For example, because Whats App is used by a majority of people with asthma (85% in our survey) and does not require computer expertise or high-end hardware, it is more easily accessible for users than downloading and using a new app.

Preferences for a Mental Health Support Technology Among Chinese Employees: Mixed Methods Approach

Preferences for a Mental Health Support Technology Among Chinese Employees: Mixed Methods Approach

A mixed method user research was conducted to provide insights into Chinese employees’ understanding of mental health and their preferences for interventions, privacy, terms used, platform, and style. This paper discusses 2 studies: a quantitative survey-based study and a qualitative analysis of interviews with employees and managers.

They also allow users to access them at any time, as opposed to having to wait for a guide through physical groups or telephone calls. Conversational agents may also support individuals with limited digital competencies, which may be beneficial not only for older adults but also for people with cognitive challenges [22], offering lower barriers to use by using voice as a communication medium, as opposed to using a graphical interface device.

Trends in Effectiveness of Organizational eHealth Interventions in Addressing Employee Mental Health: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Trends in Effectiveness of Organizational eHealth Interventions in Addressing Employee Mental Health: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

The internet offers a unique opportunity to address these rate-limiting steps by delivering e Health interventions with components such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and stress management to a broad audience. e Health interventions provide employees with access to psychological help when they are not employed in a typical working environment, such as shift workers or those working from home, or when they may be sick-listed from work.

Smart Home Sensing and Monitoring in Households With Dementia: User-Centered Design Approach

Smart Home Sensing and Monitoring in Households With Dementia: User-Centered Design Approach

If they are taken as an unmitigated good and not carefully designed, they can have a significant negative impact on a disadvantaged community. This can go beyond basic requirements such as safety and accessibility. They can, for example, reduce the privacy and individual autonomy of patients and their families; they can be demeaning, unfair, or biased. Ethical and social risks are a significant barrier to a more widespread adoption of intelligent assistive technologies (ATs) for dementia.

Framework for the Design Engineering and Clinical Implementation and Evaluation of mHealth Apps for Sleep Disturbance: Systematic Review

A further 3 papers were excluded that reported evidence solely for concurrent validity (ie, comparison of app sleep tracking against objective measurements of sleep) and provided no further information about design engineering and clinical implementation and evaluation. PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) flow diagram. A summary of the study characteristics is presented in Table 1. There was a total of 15 papers.
