Effectiveness of an Emergency Department–Based Machine Learning Clinical Decision Support Tool to Prevent Outpatient Falls Among Older Adults: Protocol for a Quasi-Experimental Study

We define a completed referral as a patient completing an initial visit with a falls prevention specialist at the mobility and falls clinic. Our secondary outcome is return visits to any ED for a fall within 6 months of the index ED visit, the outcome our ML algorithm was trained to predict. This outcome is meant to reflect the overall effectiveness of the intervention in preventing falls among patients identified as high-risk.
