On the basis of cultural adaptation intervention research [49,50], a UK version of PAMI was developed by a team of researchers at the University of Nottingham to ensure that PAMI was culturally appropriate for UK care homes (Waters, B, Orrell, M, and Mc Dermott, O, unpublished data, March 2023).
The researchers followed 2 cultural adaptation frameworks, the Barrera and Castro [51] framework and the Formative Method for Adapting Psychotherapy [52], to guide the development process.

Martin et al [27] used interviews in the development phase to identify the main issues, risks and care needs arising during nighttime. The main themes included promoting independence, maintaining dignity, maximizing social inclusion, managing risk, and providing stimulation. In the feasibility and piloting phase, participants were involved in any of the 3 phases of iterative validation and evaluation of a prototype through technical system usage and interviews.
