Therefore, this study aimed to explore this issue by considering several health-related outcomes of residents of a long-term care facilities. A quasi-experimental design was used in this study (Clinicaltrials.gov; NCT04324203). One long-term care facility (>300 beds) out of the 6 long-term care facilities in North Taiwan was selected as the experimental group; another long-term care facility with similar characteristics and size was selected as the control group.

The research team developed the combination program, involving aromatherapy, long-term care, elderly health promotion, and health education professionals. The characteristics of the 3 D VR and hands-on aromatherapy program were appropriate for the psychological status of the elderly participants. The final versions of each session (see Multimedia Appendix 1) were prepared after multiple careful revisions of the program.
