The Effects of Virtual Reality–Based Reminiscence Therapies for Older Adults With Cognitive Impairment: Systematic Review

For example, Xu and Wang [25] used a VR system to restore life scenes in China in the 1970s. They demonstrated that this VR-based RT (VR-RT) intervention was highly effective and acceptable among older adults with cognitive impairment. In addition, Saredakis et al [26] found that VR-RT could reduce symptoms of isolation and apathy among older adults with cognitive impairment. Hence, VR-RTs have great potential to alleviate memory loss and promote communication, cognition, and positive mood.
