Speech Processing as a Far-Transfer Gauge of Serious Games for Cognitive Training in Aging: Randomized Controlled Trial of Web-Based Effectivate Training

Speech Processing as a Far-Transfer Gauge of Serious Games for Cognitive Training in Aging: Randomized Controlled Trial of Web-Based Effectivate Training

Files were mixed with a continuous speech spectrum noise at a fixed 0 d B signal-to-noise ratio based on values for the discrimination timeline in the study by Ben-David et al [55]. Stimuli were presented binaurally at 50 d B above the individual pure tone average via a MAICO MA-51 (MAICO) audiometer using TDH 39 supra-aural headphones (Telephonics). In each trial, the participants were presented with a 3×3 grid with 4 images of objects positioned at the grid corners (Figure 1).

Designing Serious Computer Games for People With Moderate and Advanced Dementia: Interdisciplinary Theory-Driven Pilot Study

For example, Ben-David and colleagues [36] have recently showed that reduced performance for Pw D (as compared to healthy older adults) on a task that gauges executive functions (the Stroop color-word test) can be partially mediated by dementia-related changes in color-vision [37]. Auditory changes can also lead to reduced cognitive performance, especially in daily life activities such as communication [38]. This dual sensory loss (visual and auditory) also has direct implications on game administration.
