Ambulance Services Attendance for Mental Health and Overdose Before and During COVID-19 in Canada and the United Kingdom: Interrupted Time Series Study

The proportion of female individuals in each location was similar (n=2,457,905, 50.5% vs n=522,488, 51.2%), as were the proportions of individuals aged 65 years and older (n=902,947, 18.6% vs n=207,184, 20.5%). Household incomes and population densities were found to be similar, as well (Table 1). In the Canadian study regions, the ambulance services provided 1 vehicle per 14,776 persons, while in the UK study region, it was 1 per 9809 persons.

The majority of participants who answered the question relating to the time of diagnosis (n=36) had their first diagnosis ≥10 years ago (52.8%, 19/36), and 47.2% (17/36) had the diagnosis Semistructured interviews were conducted with a rough 10% subsample of the questionnaire sample (4 women and 3 men). On average, interviewees aged 70 years (range, 57-83 years) and had 4 LTCs (range, 2-8).
