Chatbots have been introduced in COVID-19 vaccine promotion in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, and France, and have demonstrated significant effectiveness in enhancing vaccine confidence and reducing vaccine hesitancy through conversations compared with passive learning educational materials [26,27].

A total of 20 studies were performed in Canada [15,34,37], the United States [14,17,18,35,36,42,43], Turkey [16,44], Spain [13], Australia [38,45], China (Hong Kong) [40], the Netherlands [46], Germany [39], Singapore [41], and Finland [12]. Two studies [15,17] used a 3-arm RCT design, while the remaining studies [12-14,16,18,34-46] used a 2-arm RCT design. Among them, 5 studies [15,18,36,44,46] focused on adults and 15 studies [12-14,16,17,34,35,37-43,45] targeted children.

The inclusion criteria include (1) adults (aged ≥18 y), (2) identifying as women, (3) currently enrolled in substance use treatment (behavioral or pharmacological), and (4) willing to accept random assignment to a waitlist (usual care) or THRIVE.

Our study was conducted between May and October 2022 and employed a nationwide cross-sectional online survey strategy that aimed to capture the association between burnout and social media use among PHWs across China’s diverse provinces, excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
