Adapting a Text Messaging Intervention to Improve Diabetes Medication Adherence in a Spanish-Speaking Population: Qualitative Study

The development of the REACH barrier content has been described in studies by Nelson et al [25,26]. The REACH study team conducted a thorough review of published studies describing patient-reported barriers to adherence to glucose-lowering medications. The literature review yielded 68 barriers to taking oral glucose-lowering medications and 7 barriers to taking insulin; similar barriers were collapsed, resulting in 36 adherence barriers [25].
