Characterizing Walking Behaviors in Aged Residential Care Using Accelerometry, With Comparison Across Care Levels, Cognitive Status, and Physical Function: Cross-Sectional Study

For example, Mc Ardle et al’s [8] review on the quantification of ambulatory activities in ARC reported that 26% of studies excluded people with cognitive impairment and only 17% explicitly characterized walking activities in people with cognitive impairment, despite a 65%-70% prevalence of cognitive impairment in ARC residents [17,18]. Additionally, no studies compared different levels of care.

Digital Endpoints for Assessing Instrumental Activities of Daily Living in Mild Cognitive Impairment: Systematic Review

This was adapted in line with the study by Mc Ardle et al [28] for specific application in reviews of populations with cognitive impairments and digital technology; evidence was rated as poor, mediocre, or good [28,29]. The results of the quality assessment can be found in Multimedia Appendix 2. The search identified 16,099 articles. After removing duplicates (n=9289), titles (n=6810) and abstracts (n=995) were screened, and 217 full texts were assessed for eligibility.

Using Digital Technology to Quantify Habitual Physical Activity in Community Dwellers With Cognitive Impairment: Systematic Review

Using Digital Technology to Quantify Habitual Physical Activity in Community Dwellers With Cognitive Impairment: Systematic Review

All titles, abstracts, and full texts were independently screened by 2 reviewers (authors RMA and KJB) using Rayyan software developed by Ouzzani et al [23], with a third reviewer settling disagreements (author MC). Information about the decision-making process can be found in Figure 1. Data extraction forms were developed on Excel (Microsoft Corp) by author RMA and refined in consultation with 2 other authors (MC and KJB).
