Feasibility of a Mental Health App Intervention for Emergency Service Workers and Volunteers: Single-Arm Pilot Study

Feasibility of a Mental Health App Intervention for Emergency Service Workers and Volunteers: Single-Arm Pilot Study

A recent survey by Kyron et al [6] among 14,868 Australian ambulance, fire and rescue, police, and state emergency services employees highlights the range of MH and well-being conditions associated with work in the emergency services sector. While 10% of employees screened positive for probable PTSD, 30% had low well-being, and 30% had high or very high psychological distress, suggesting that depression and anxiety, as well as PTSD, are likely to be common MH issues for emergency service workers.

For example, a user expressing stress might first be validated and supported by the coach’s comments and then guided through a relaxation technique, ensuring a responsive and meaningful experience. Before starting a conversation, users select a coach persona that aligns with their preferences, such as a first-generation Latinx student or a university professor. This user-centered approach enhances engagement and flexibility, allowing users to switch between coaches while maintaining comprehensive support.

There is additionally a financial burden associated with supporting the rehabilitation needs of patients after major trauma [25,26]. A traumatic injury is defined as any injury that requires admission to a hospital at the time of injury [15]. According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), a major trauma or injury is also defined as an injury or a combination of injuries that are life-threatening or life-changing and that could result in long-term disability [27,28].

Sodium Oxybate as a Potential New Treatment for Catatonia in Patients With Depression, Bipolar Disorder, or a Psychotic Disorder: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

Sodium Oxybate as a Potential New Treatment for Catatonia in Patients With Depression, Bipolar Disorder, or a Psychotic Disorder: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

It is hypothesized that catatonia is caused by either a dysfunction of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) receptors or a deficit in GABA [6,7]. Current treatment options target this neurotransmitter imbalance. Catatonia is a clinical syndrome characterized by a distinct constellation of psychomotor disturbances. A total of 2 subtypes have been described: retarded and excited [1,2].

Impact of Diagnostic Stewardship on Urine Culture Ordering in Saudi Arabia: Prospective Pre- and Postintervention Study

Impact of Diagnostic Stewardship on Urine Culture Ordering in Saudi Arabia: Prospective Pre- and Postintervention Study

Therefore, we sought to assess the impact of a clinical decision support (CDS) intervention on diagnostic stewardship, focusing on the appropriateness of urine culture orders and antibiotic use. We conducted a quasiexperimental study at an academic medical center with 400 beds in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Our center is a referral center for women’s health, pediatrics, and adolescent health.
