Of the 92 participants, 1 (1%) was American Indian or Alaska Native, 4 (4%) were Black, 1 (1%) were Hispanic, 79 (86%) were White, 2 (2%) identified as multiracial, and 3 (3%) identified as “other.” Racial and ethnic distribution is representative of the patient populations at the recruitment sites. The participants’ mean age was 35 (SD 9.87) years.

Most participants (99/136, 72.8%) identified their ethnicity as White; the remaining participants identified as African American or Black (19/136, 14%), Asian (3/136, 2.2%), mixed (3/136, 2.2%), and other (7/136, 5.1%).

Distribution locations and appropriate distribution objects (black and white bracelets for captures 1 and 2, respectively) were identified through a formative assessment and through support from organizations who work with people who inject drugs. Volunteers were assigned to distribute objects at these locations as well as additional locations in the volunteer’s neighborhood or preferred hangout place.

Collection and Analysis of Repeated Speech Samples: Methodological Framework and Example Protocol
All pictures are black and white designs, depicting a simple story situation with a central focus and interacting elements. Typically used in speech assessment in neurodegenerative disorders, for example, Alzheimer disease, to investigate cognitive characteristics via the linguistic content of an individual’s speech [32], picture descriptions also have value in paralinguistic analysis [61].

A total of 19 (79%) participants were White, and 17 (71%) participants were female. In total, 18 (75%) participants had sustained a traumatic SCI; of these, 10 (42%) had quadriplegia, 12 (50%) had paraplegia, and 2 (8%) had monoplegia. The mean age of the participants was 51 (SD 12) years (range: 34‐76 y). The mean year of postinjury was 17 (SD 13) years (range: 1.5‐52 y), and 6 (25%) participants had sustained their injury within 5 years of study enrollment.

County A is just under one-half White (46.5%), while County B is less White (39.4%). County A has a smaller proportion of men (71.4%) than County B (76.4%). Both jail populations are similar in age, with County A having 51.3% of people 31 years or older and County B with 51.5%. Medicaid is the insurer for 96% of people in jail in County A and 78% of people in jail in County B.
